Photos by Scott Wilson Courtland, Ont. – For most folks, when it comes to planning a new family activity, the typical strategy seems to be taking up something like skating, riding around on bicycles together, or (shudder) golf. Good, wholesome activities, to be sure. Not so for my family, who instead prefers two wheels of the motorized sort. My brother, Scott, and I have been riding regularly…

Review: New Protective Gear from REV’IT! https://canadamotoguide.com/2023/07/24/review-revit-boots-gloves-jeans/ https://canadamotoguide.com/2023/07/24/review-revit-boots-gloves-jeans/#respond Mon, 24 Jul 2023 11:00:04 +0000 https://canadamotoguide.com/?p=144277 Worthy alternatives to traditional equipment that balance style, comfort, and protection

]]>
We at Canada Moto Guide have long been advocates of ATGATT (all the gear, all the time). We’ve also heard all the excuses from people who skip protective equipment that range from, “I’m a safe rider, so I don’t need it,” to “it’s too hot,” and “it doesn’t look cool.” That first response is blind naivety since no matter how skilled a rider you are, there can always be some oblivious cager on a…

2022 BMW S 1000 XR Review https://canadamotoguide.com/2022/08/11/2022-bmw-s-1000-xr-review/ https://canadamotoguide.com/2022/08/11/2022-bmw-s-1000-xr-review/#comments Thu, 11 Aug 2022 10:00:12 +0000 https://canadamotoguide.com/?p=140116 The 2022 BMW S 1000 XR is a motorcycle multitool to the extreme, and it was absolutely the right tool for a rapid tour around the Canadian Maritimes.

Having the right tool for the job can make all the difference. A quarter-inch socket isn’t going to work if you need your missing 10-mm. A can of spray cheese is no replacement for whipped cream. And those flip-flops are a poor choice for ice fishing. But there are some tools that can be right for a lot of jobs. A multitool or Swiss army knife can solve an endless number of challenges.

Trench GTX Jacket https://canadamotoguide.com/2022/08/09/review-revit-trench-gtx-jacket/ https://canadamotoguide.com/2022/08/09/review-revit-trench-gtx-jacket/#comments Tue, 09 Aug 2022 10:15:50 +0000 https://canadamotoguide.com/?p=140101 I love my leather jacket. It’s old and worn in and fits me well, but there’s no ventilation, it weighs a ton, and when it rains, it becomes a soggy mess. So I started searching for yet another jacket that would meet a few crucial criteria.

]]>
My riding gear closet is starting to get silly. I’ve got helmets and gloves that I haven’t worn for years but can’t seem to part with, pairs of boots for occasions that never seem to arise, and after paring down the collection a bit, three jackets. I love my leather jacket. It’s old and worn in and fits me well, but there’s no ventilation, it weighs a ton, and when it rains, it becomes a soggy…

As adventure bikes are quickly becoming the crossover SUVs of the two-wheeled realm (and just as prolific), what’s fashionable in helmets is also shifting to a more ADV-style bucket. This is the AGV AX9, a dual-sport-focused helmet that replaces the AX8 that’s been around for several years. The new model improves on ventilation and increases the size of the peak. More on both of those features…

As I collect years in my 40s, I’m increasingly aware of not only my own mortality, but also my appreciation for comfort and the finer things in life. My girlfriend, Allie, frequently enjoys reminding me that she’s several years my junior, so I devised a plan that would make me appear younger and fitter than I am. Or at least make her realize age will soon begin catching up with her, too.

The team here at CMG follow the ATGATT mantra (All the Gear All the Time). Why? Because skin grafts suck, that’s why. I wear my full-face helmet, armoured jacket, gloves and boots every time I ride. Sure, some days it’s simply too hot and humid to sit in traffic with all that gear, so when I need to cross the Greater Toronto Area at rush hour I’ll bow out and take the car instead.

Test Ride:  2020 Indian FTR 1200 S https://canadamotoguide.com/2020/01/16/test-ride-2020-indian-ftr-1200-s/ https://canadamotoguide.com/2020/01/16/test-ride-2020-indian-ftr-1200-s/#comments Thu, 16 Jan 2020 10:00:25 +0000 https://canadamotoguide.com/?p=129953 It's a lot of money, but it's also a lot of bike. Jeff takes the flat tracker into the California desert to churn up some sand and figure out its appeal.

]]>
It seemed simple enough to me. I wanted an epic photo of the Indian FTR 1200 S in a lurid slide, the rider’s left leg outstretched and a dust cloud billowing up behind, partly obscuring the mountains in the distant background. We had the perfect setting for it, a dusty, desert spot in Southern California, and I asked Editor Mark to rip me a few donuts while I grabbed the dream shot I envisioned.
