It was very much on our radar. We just ran out of time, and on the way up, the weather was crap anyway.

I would love to go back and do another 10 days this summer, but probably will end up in Quebec instead.

Think you’d better take a longer vacation next time you come to the island.

In the end, time poverty kept me to nine days, so my route took me no further than a lap of Cape Breton.

It was still a very memorable trip. In the interest of time, the route East was all Trans-Canada, which was both a yawn and, at times, a little hairy thanks to high, gusty winds. At the crossing into Nova Scotia near Amherst, I swear I was motoring steadily in a straight line while canted at a 25-30 degree angle into the wind. I see why the wind turbines are located there!

The road back was all back roads and special treats like the Cabot Trail, Sunrise Trail and, as I rolled upriver along the St Lawrence, Le Chemin du Roy. Enjoying the ride, not just eagerly awaiting the destination.

Still hope to make to NL soon.
