Time to think about putting the bike away for the year.

It’s that time again!—Ed. Just about everywhere in Canada has seen snow at this point. Even if you hope to sneak out for the occasional ride on nice days, it’s time to face grim reality: You need to winterize your motorcycle. Otherwise, when you go to start it next spring, it won’t cooperate. Luckily, CMG is here to once again remind you of the steps you must take to fend off Old Man Winter.

Do you remember your first time? I mean on a motorcycle, of course. Maybe it was a friend’s bike, or you bought one yourself and crossed your fingers with just a beginner’s licence. It can be intimidating to learn how to ride, but for many of us, we knew right away this is what we wanted to do. But what about other people who are kind of curious about riding, but not sure they’ll like it?

]]>
Given the increasingly stringent speeding laws in this country, taking a motorcycle to the racetrack is becoming a better idea each and every year. In fact, when I purchased a Yamaha R6 last summer, I didn’t even bother looking into insuring it for the street. Not only are rates becoming wildly prohibitive to the point that many riders seem willing to ride without coverage and risk the fines…

Any motorcycle racer worth their salt will tell you that in order to be fast you’ve got to start slow. Or in this case, small. Accomplished road racer and Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Famer Toni Sharpless recently opened the Super Sonic Road Race School that makes use of a fleet of minibikes. Pupils of all ages learn the fundamentals in a fun, less intimidating environment where the speeds are…

As usual, I’ve done a stupid thing. I went and bought an extremely large and too-expensive motorcycle which, as a relatively new and inept rider, is a machine which I am uniquely unqualified to pilot. The smarter decision would have been to place that money into an RRSP, or TSA or something right? Well, I’ve never been accused of being smart, so…Triumph Scrambler 1200 it is! The XE. The big one…

YAMANASHI, JAPAN—If you had told me two years ago that you were leaving for Japan to pick up a motorcycle that you purchased from someone on the other side of the world, I would probably think you were either rich or crazy. But here I am, neither rich nor crazy, making arrangements to have my new-to-me two-stroke Japanese sport bike shipped home to Canada. It began when I started planning to…
