I almost never saw the same purchasing staff more than once. Inside the big OEMs, they report to the lead project engineer, who then downloads body and styling cost issues to the design department. Meetings like the one described only happened when design had to stage “an intervention”.

It happened in Italy, but despite that country’s reputation for fashion, they have the same ratio of badly dressed people as anyone.
